Early Life and Education

Hammad Lakhvi was born on 9 December 1965 in Qila Tara Singh, a village near Depalpur. He received his early education in his local area and began his learning journey with Quranic reading and school education.

He completed his matriculation from Depalpur High School in 1982 and later completed F.Sc. from Government College Depalpur in 1984. He passed his B.A. examination from the University of the Punjab in 1986.

His higher education continued at the University of the Punjab, where he completed M.A. Islamic Studies in 1988 with first position and received a gold medal. He then completed M.A. Arabic in 1990 with first division, followed by a PhD in 2001. Later, he completed LL.B. from Punjab University Law College in 2008 and also received post-doctoral study experience at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, under a Government of Pakistan scholarship.

Academic Career and University Service

Dr Hammad has served in teaching and academic leadership for more than three decades. He began his government college teaching career in 1990 and later became associated with the Institute of Islamic Studies at the University of the Punjab, Lahore.

At the University of the Punjab, he served in different academic positions, including Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. He also supervised research students at M.A., M.Phil., and PhD levels and contributed to the academic development of Islamic Studies through teaching, research guidance, and institutional service.

He served as Professor at the Institute of Islamic Studies from 2014 until his retirement in 2025. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies from 2019 to 2025 and, in 2024, carried responsibilities as both Director of the Institute of Islamic Studies and Dean. His academic service reflects a long commitment to Islamic education, research, and university-level scholarship.

He has contributed to Islamic scholarship through research, writing, academic supervision, and participation in scholarly conferences. He has served as a religious expert on different radio and television platforms and has contributed to public Islamic education through programs related to Quranic explanation, Islamic guidance, zakat, faith, supplication, and contemporary religious questions. His weekly Tafsir al-Quran lessons on Paigham TV have also benefited viewers in different parts of the world.
